Movers and border crossings

European movers have been complaining that the crossings across border points in Europe are not always smooth. Apparently, it was hoped that with the formation and development of the European Union crossing for freight in general and movers in particular would become much easier and even absolutely smooth. The movers are simply disappointed. You can see the problems at a number of crossing over points. For example in the south of France where the movers cross from Italy into France along the coastal strip, long lines of traffic pile up. There are usually two separate lanes, one for private cars and one for heavy traffic, mainly trucks. Hundreds of movers can be seen moving along here during the course of three hours. The lines are slow and annoying and drivers need a lot of patience. According to the movers, the hold up is simply bureaucratic. Customs police hold up each truck and slowly check papers and then check the actual merchandise, and each check can take something like
fifteen minutes at least. It becomes particularly hard for movers due to their enormous varied loads of articles. Checking the movers' freight can sometimes take up to twenty five minutes or even more.
